Growing up I never had a summer at home. Kids at school couldn’t wait to get out of school and swim for the next 3 months -- but for me summer meant something different. When the school bell rang for the final time that year and all you saw were children racing through the halls, I was smiling for a different reason. You see, every summer, our whole family would pile up in our big green van (not our most beloved vehicle) and go on adventures to church camps all over the country, singing the sweet love of Jesus. It was always an adventure and whatever we faced we faced it together. You want your family to get closer? Send them on a twenty hour road trip. LOL
In 2011 our family hit the road again but this time not returning to paychecks in the fall. My parents believed God had given us a call to answer, so as a family of seven we piled in our big tan van (which we liked much more) and began to sing. I remember one time reading my Bible and sensing that God was calling me to sing, not just because that is what my family was doing. Singing became a personal call.
Accepting God’s will for your life can be a hard decision and scary to think about. I can promise you though, once you take that first step of faith and rely fully on Jesus, He will carry you through anything you face.
If there is anything I have loved it has been seeing the hand of God work miracles before me as I have grown up. My parents have taught us to give everything to God and never to doubt His love. Whether rain or sunshine, good times or difficult, we have a Heavenly Father who cares.
Our family sings a song that was penned by the hand of my mama called, “Understanding Friend.” It’s a personal favorite of mine. The simple melody and compassionate lyrics comfort the soul as it reminds us of the greatest, “Burden Bearer,” Jesus Himself. Whether you are enjoying sunny days, or walking through tough ones there is a Friend who wants to walk with you – and will never leave you or forsake you. Cue the praise hands!
I hope that this little article of my life encourages you somehow. I truly love what I do and am so thankful for God’s call on my life.
