What IS beautiful?
In a society with such a high pressure and high emphasis placed on beauty, this is just one of many questions most women subconsciously ask themselves several times a day as we look in the mirror. Usually along with,
“Does what I’m wearing make me look beautiful?”
“Is my hair beautiful?”
“Do they think I’m beautiful?”
“Does he think I’m beautiful?”
“…AM I beautiful??”
When I looked up “beautiful” in the dictionary, I found: “having beauty: possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think about, etc.; delighting the senses or mind.”
Now if that’s not the most subjective thing I’ve ever heard! Qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to WHO exactly? It doesn’t say.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” they say. (Whoever “they” are.) And with billions of “beholders” walking around the planet, it is impossible to please them all. But there is One Beholder worthy of every effort to please and satisfy in what He sees, hears, and thinks about in us; that we would be His delight. He created the universe, and all therein. He designed you, and held your purpose before time began. And, He already knows that you are beautiful.
Psalm 139:14 tells us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” God is proud of His handiwork in us. And it is His desire to see us grow in the beauty of His grace and love, from that foundation.
How can we gage that we are growing, and becoming more and more beautiful in His sight? How do we know that we are becoming more and more like Him? In order to answer these questions, we are going to need a mirror.
Genesis 1:26 tells us that God created us in HIS image. And John 1:1 says that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word WAS God.
Go grab your Bible.
You’re holding your mirror.
It will furnish peace to you when your life reflects Him—true beauty. It will also reveal to you when things in your life are not looking so good.
Now, sometimes, I have days where I avoid every single mirror in the house because I KNOW I’m looking ROUGH that day! (Can I get a witness?!) But we cannot allow ourselves to avoid getting in His Word because we are afraid of what we will find in ourselves. The great thing about this Mirror, is that it will tell us how to make things right, and clothe ourselves in the beauty God destined for us.
How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:15
Take your spiritual Mirror, watch yourself, and strive for that true beauty. Put aside the vain beauties society puts so much pressure on. Purify your heart, show grace, and speak love. Love the Lord Thy God will all of your heart, soul, and mind. Focus on the spiritual and internal, worry not for the carnal and external—for when you meet eyes with Your Master, you shall be perfect.
**Hey, True Purpose Ladies! My name is Rachel Lynn Sancricca, and I travel and sing with a female trio called Master’s Promise. I am 20-years-old, and the other two girls in my group are 20 and 18, so it is such a thrilling and unique experience to be serving the Lord and ministering to people across the country as a group of such young ladies. It so important to my heart that girls understand how great their value is, and how willing and ready God is to use them—no matter how young!
I am so thankful for Fayth, and all of the work she does for that very purpose. I am honored that she invited me to be a guest on this wonderfully encouraging blog.
